Why choose an Adult Family Home

Adult Family Homes (AFHs) provide a community-based residential setting with 24-hour care and services for seniors and vulnerable adults, offering a more intimate and personalized environment than larger facilities.

These residential homes are licensed to care for up to six non-related residents. They provide room, board, laundry, necessary supervision, and necessary help with activities of daily living, personal care, and social services.

Characteristics of AFHs

Intimate Environment: AFHs are designed to be like a home, typically accommodating six or fewer residents, fostering a more personalized and family-like atmosphere.

24-Hour Care: AFHs offer around-the-clock care and services, including assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs) like bathing, dressing, and eating. Common services include laundry, meals, housekeeping, medication management, and transportation to appointments or activities.

Licensed and Regulated: AFHs are independently licensed and operated, but must meet specific health and safety standards set by the state of Washington.

Alternative to Larger Facilities: They offer an alternative to larger assisted living facilities or nursing homes, providing a more home-like setting with a focus on individualized care.

Cost: The cost of living in an AFH can vary based on location, the level of care needed, and whether a resident needs a private or shared room.
